Therapeutic Approach and Philosophy
Many people come in with a diagnosis, a painful area, or a symptom they want fixed. While that information is important, I also ask: Why is the body expressing the problem this way? What has it been compensating for? Where is movement restricted? Where is the nervous system guarded? What tissues are holding tension? What internal factors may be interfering with healing?
My treatment approach may include:
- Posture, movement, and biomechanical evaluation
- Assessment and targeted care of joint mobility and balance
- Fascia-focused bodywork and connective tissue release
- Acupuncture balance evaluation and treatment with needles, laser, or electrostimulation
- Guidance for stretching, mobility, and corrective movement
- Functional nutrition consultation when appropriate
Because Optimal You has a strong focus on trauma, emotional healing, and whole-person wellness, my work can support those whose emotional stress has become physically expressed through chronic tension, pain, restricted breathing, protective postures, fatigue, or a sense of disconnection from the body. The phrase “issues are in the tissues” reflects something I have observed throughout my career: the physical body often carries the imprint of stress, injury, and life experience within the connective tissue.
My goal is to provide a calm, thoughtful, and effective space where patients feel listened to, respected, and actively involved in their healing process.
Areas of Focus
- Chronic neck and back pain
- Headaches and tension patterns
- Rib cage, diaphragm, and breathing restrictions
- Shoulder, hip, knee, and joint problems
- Fascial restrictions and connective tissue dysfunction
- Postural strain and movement imbalance
- Stress-related physical tension
- Fatigue and reduced vitality
- Functional nutrition and metabolic support
- Whole-person strategies for pain, movement, and resilience
About Dr. Jeff
My work is rooted in the belief that the body functions as an integrated whole. Pain or dysfunction in one area is often connected to patterns of tension, compensation, restriction, or imbalance elsewhere. Rather than simply treating the painful area, I look at how the body is moving, how the connective tissue is adapting, how the nervous system is responding, and how stress, posture, injury, inflammation, and lifestyle may be affecting the whole person.
Over the years, my practice has evolved into a comprehensive, hands-on approach that blends aspects of chiropractic care, acupuncture, fascia release, movement assessment, and functional nutrition. This allows me to work with people from several different angles structural, energetic, neurological, and metabolic — depending on what each person needs.
Background and Experience
My chiropractic background gives me a strong understanding of the spine, joints, nervous system, biomechanics, and structural function. My acupuncture training brings in a different but complementary way of seeing the body, one that considers patterns of energy, regulation, stress, and internal balance. My work with fascia and connective tissue helps bridge these worlds, because the fascial system is one of the key ways the body organizes movement, tension, protection, and adaptation.
I also have a long-standing interest in functional nutrition and the metabolic factors that influence healing, inflammation, energy, digestion, and overall resilience. When appropriate, I help patients look at the internal environment of the body as well as the physical structure.
Personal Statement
My work is about helping people understand those patterns and giving the body better options. Sometimes that means restoring joint motion. Sometimes it means releasing fascial tension. Sometimes it means calming the nervous system, improving breathing mechanics, supporting metabolism, or helping someone reconnect with movement in a healthier way.
I enjoy working with people who want to understand their health, participate in their care, and look at the body as more than a collection of separate parts. My goal is always to help patients move better, feel better, function better, and become more confident in their own healing process.
Three-Dimensional Examination
The exam looks at three key dimensions of health: physical, energetic, and metabolic. By combining these perspectives, we can better identify the patterns and imbalances that may be contributing to pain, tension, restricted movement, stress overload, inflammation, fatigue, or reduced resilience.
The physical dimension includes assessment of strength, flexibility, stability, posture, and movement quality. Thermal scanning and surface EMG may also be used to help identify patterns of muscular tension, nervous system stress, and dysautonomia.
The energetic dimension, as reflected in the acupuncture system, uses electrodermal testing to help evaluate relative balance among the acupuncture meridians. This provides another way to understand how the body is regulating and where support may be needed.
The metabolic dimension uses standard and functional laboratory testing to assess how well the internal body is functioning. This may include looking at stress and hormonal balance, gastrointestinal health, inflammation, and metabolic efficiency.
Few healthcare settings evaluate the body from all of these perspectives in one place. By looking at structure, movement, nervous system regulation, acupuncture meridian balance, and internal metabolic function together, the three-dimensional examination creates a clearer picture of your overall health and helps guide care that is more specific, personalized, and meaningful.
Acupuncture
Because fascia and connective tissue connect every part of the body, restrictions or imbalances in one area can affect movement, tension, pain, and overall function elsewhere. Each visit includes an evaluation for balance across the meridian system, helping guide treatment based on what your body is showing that day.
Treatment may include traditional acupuncture needles, or more modern approaches such as laser acupuncture and/or electrical stimulation, depending on what is most appropriate and comfortable for each person.
Auriculotherapy
Auriculotherapy is the detection and treatment of reflex points on the ear. While often associated with acupuncture, it is more accurately understood as a specialized form of neural therapy that uses specific ear points corresponding to the nervous system. Stimulation of these points influence pain response and overall body regulation. The ear acts like a microsystem of the body, with points that relate to different areas and functions.
This approach can be especially helpful for calming a stressed or overactive nervous system, supporting emotional balance, and helping reduce pain patterns. Auriculotherapy has also been used as an integrated tool in addiction treatment, as stimulation of these reflex points help support nervous system regulation and brain chemistry balance. Treatment may involve gentle stimulation with pellets, laser, or microcurrent/electrical stimulation, depending on the needs and comfort of each person.
Functional Nutrition
Functional nutrition looks beyond symptoms and standard lab values to better understand how the body is actually working. In addition to standard medical panels, functional laboratory testing can help identify patterns of imbalance that may not be obvious when chemistry values are simply kept within “normal” limits.
This approach looks at three major areas that strongly influence overall health: stress and hormonal balance, gastrointestinal health, and metabolic efficiency. These systems affect how the body regulates inflammation, produces energy, repairs tissue, processes nutrients, and maintains resilience.
When stress chemistry, hormones, digestion, or metabolism are out of balance, the effects can show up in many ways — including fatigue, inflammation, pain, poor recovery, mood changes, and increased tension in the connective tissues. Because fascia and connective tissue respond to the internal environment of the body, functional nutrition can be an important part of supporting better movement, emotional balance, and long-term healing.
Treatment may include functional lab testing, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, targeted supplementation, and ongoing support based on each person’s individual needs.
Integrated Bodywork
Rather than focusing only on the painful area, this approach considers how all of the connective tissues — joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, bones, fascia, and cartilage — work together to influence tension, restriction, mobility, and movement efficiency.
This hands-on care is a gentle, non-invasive way of helping restore normal movement patterns. This is supported outside of the office with specific exercises, stretches, and movement recommendations to facilitate progress between visits. This “homework” helps reinforce the changes made during treatment and gives each person practical tools to improve function in daily life.
